We enjoyed our action camera fun and created some unique and entertaining video memories at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It was a blast and I highly recommend these compact cameras for your next theme park adventure.
In February we traveled to Florida and met with our two youngest, Alexis and Jacob, for a quick trip to Walt Disney World to celebrate Rod’s birthday. Yes, he is that special! We had a great time and if you want to see more of our video and photo antics, you can check out the Selfie Fun With Donald Duck we had with a 360 View camera at Tusker House Restaurant.
While the 360 View camera provided some entertaining virtual reality moments, we also brought along two action cameras for some point-of-view fun on the rides.

We were armed (wristed) with a GoPro Hero 5 and an Akaso EK7000 (AKA my FauxPro) as we headed to DinoLand USA. Our first test was on one of my favorite attractions, Primeval Whirl. At first look, this ride appears to be simple, tame and made for children. But, I assure you, it packs more fun punch than its appearance suggests. If you have ever been on a “Crazy Mouse” rollercoaster at the fair, you’ll know what I mean.
The four of us packed into our Primeval Whirl car and off we went.

The Primeval Whirl is an insanely fun ride with the perfect amount of twirly craziness for the confidence a secure wrist strap gives you. We chose a glove-style wrist strap for its security, comfort and ability to easily control camera angles. As you can see in the video, the wrist straps held strong and kept the cameras stable throughout the duration of the ride and multiple angle of views.
Which cameras did we use?
This POV video shows the angles from two cameras. On my wrist is the Akaso EK7000 and on Rod’s wrist is the GoPro Hero 5. If you watch closely, you will be able to see which video clips are coming from which camera. To give you a bit of a hint: Rod’s GoPro was shooting at a much wider angle than my Akaso.

The price difference between the two cameras is substantial. The GoPro Hero 5 retails for $399 (though with the Hero 6 out, prices should drop) and the Akaso retails for less than $70. There are definitely differences between the two action camera, but as you can see the quality of the video isn’t really very different. For an extra camera, or for an affordable option to begin working with action cameras, the Akaso EK7000 is a great deal.

We didn’t stop here. Next we traveled to Asia to conquer the forbidden mountain … Expedition Everest. This high-speed rollercoaster is thrilling, fast, exciting, has unexpected twists and turns, the Abominable Snowman, and is the ride that I can only do once a day. If you’re lucky. It’s intense.
Expedition Everest POV With Dueling Action Cameras
Whew! That was thrilling! The action cameras worked well and have allowed us to have these wonderful memories of our adventure through the Himalayan Mountains to look back on. Oh, and thank goodness they are waterproof, you may have noticed the rain.
Carrying an action camera and wrist strap into a theme park is a lot easier than hauling in full camera gear (we’ve done that, too!). They are small and don’t add extra weight, which is sometimes important when your focus is on racing from one attraction to another.
While some rides have restrictions on holding cameras or smartphones, we found they are more lenient with a secure, wrist-strapped action camera. By having it on my wrist, the camera didn’t impede or take away any part of the ride experience. If anything, it added to it by the fun memories we have recorded with our family. And isn’t that what is the most important?
